WVU High School Summer 2009 Double Reed Camp
The WVU High School Double Reed Camp will be held July 26-29, 2009, with WVU Faculty Cynthia Anderson, professor of oboe, and Dr. Lynn Hileman, professor of bassoon. This summer camp is open to all high school double reed players entering grades 9-12. Events will be held at the WVU Creatiive Arts Center and will include technique classes, reed-making workshops, double reed ensembles, introduction to orchestral excerpts, “So, You Want to Be a Music Major?” workshop, visits from double reed vendors, an instrument repair clinic with Hollis & Gremann Music, the first ever WVU High School Double Reed Competition, masterclasses with WVU faculty and guest artists John Ferrillo of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and John Hunt of the Eastman School of Music, and a grande finale concert at the conclusion of the camp. WVU High School Summer 2009 Flute Camp
The WVU High School Flute Camp will be held June 17-20, 2009, with Dr. Francesca Arnone,
Flute Professor at West Virginia University, and the WVU Student Faculty. The camp is open to
all high school flutists who are entering grades 9-12. All events will take place at West Virginia
University’s Creative Arts Center. Come join in for a fun-filled few days that feature masterclasses,
small group lessons, tone and technique classes, music theory and improvisation classes,
small ensembles, two flute choirs, faculty recitals, and a big Gala concert for family and friends.
Tuition covers all activities except housing and meals; private lessons are also available for an

Cathryn and Herman Godes 2009 Young Artist Competition
Outstanding high school seniors may audition to appear as soloists with the Community Arts
Orchestra on their Spring Concert. Students may audition with one movement from the Concerto
repertoire. The approval of the concerto selection and accessibility of orchestral parts must
be confirmed by the conductor before eligibility is established and applicants must be available
to perform on the scheduled Community Arts Orchestra spring concert on Sunday, April 26.
In addition to performing with the orchestra, the winner will receive a cash award of $500.00. The
competition will be held Tuesday, February 3 at 5:00p.m. Applications are due by Friday, January
23 and can be accessed via the CAP website, or by contacting the CAP office.
