Enjoy taking classes in the arts in the beautiful Bruceton Mills/Brandonville area. Parents, drop off the kids for a dance class at the Bruceton United Methodist Church, go peruse the unique gifts at Hostetler’s Country Store or stop in to browse one of the lovely antique shops. Be inspired by the breathtaking landscape and fall foliage while taking a drawing, digital photography or basket weaving class at the Brandonville Town Hall. After class, grab a bite to eat at one of the local eateries like Twila’s, Little Sandy’s or The Mill Place Restaurant. Catch the local farmer’s market on a Friday evening and don’t forget to end your day with an ice cream treat at the quaint Mill Stone Ice Cream Shop!

Dress for Ballet Classes: Female students should wear leotards, white or pink tights and ballet slippers. Male students should wear black tights, T-shirts, and ballet shoes. Dress for Creative Modern Dance Classes: Students should wear a leotard and tights without feet.

Basket Weaving for Beginners (ages 10-adult)

(includes all materials for creating your own basket)

Come join in the fun and learn to make your very own basket! Students will enjoy hands-on experience with various reed types and tools while learning the technique of basket weaving. Pattern and materials included. Participants will be asked to bring some basic supplies from home such as a measuring tape, pencil, bucket, etc. Students will walk away with a beautiful & completed basket at the end of the day.

Introduction to Digital Photography (ages 13-adult)

Learn how to get the most out of your digital camera. In this informative class, students will learn how to most effectively and efficiently capture those once in a lifetime moments. This course will emphasize basic photographic skills including equipment, lenses, focusing, ISO, depth of field, shooting modes, using artificial light, composition, and basic editing on computer. Students must provide their own digital cameras. Students’ cameras must have the capacity for shooting in the following exposure modes: aperture-priority, shutter-priority, and manual.

Drawing Fun for Kids! (ages 7-12)

This fun drawing class for kids focuses on gaining understanding of the fundamentals of drawing. In learning these basic principles, students will be able to further develop their individual skills and explore their own creativity. The benefits of drawing extend to many facets of learning and provide the basis for other creative activities. Drawing helps students learn the art of self-expression and how to develop important communication skills. And the best part of all is that they have fun doing it!

This fun drawing class focuses on gaining understanding of the fundamentals of classical drawing. In learning these basic principles of drawing, students will be able to further develop their individual skills, master the art of self-expression, and explore their own creativity. Learn how to more effectively convey your unique ideas and imagination. Enjoy exploring that inner artist you’ve always wanted to explore!

The West Virginia University Community Arts Program Office is located in Rm. 401A of the Creative Arts Center, Morgantown, WV. Office hours are Monday-Friday, 10:00am -12:00pm, 1:00-4:30pm.

Registration must be completed before a student can attend classes. Students may register in person during office hours or by returning a registration form with full payment for classes via mail or by fax (304-293-7491).

Payment can be made by check (made payable to West Virginia University), VISA or MASTERCARD. Patrons are encouraged to register via mail. If you would like to pay by credit card through the mail or by fax, please download a copy of our larger registration form from our website and fill out the appropriate credit card information before returning the form.

Minimum enrollment is required for all group classes. Students must be the required age within the month a class begins. In case of cancellation of any class, students will be notified. For updates, class descriptions, program policies and directions to the various venues, please visit the CAP website.

Directions

Directions to Brandonville Town Hall:

Take I-68 East to the Bruceton Mills Exit (exit 23). Turn left onto WV-26 north.
Go about 1 1/2 miles and turn left at the Brandonville Pike sign, between a church and antique furniture store (gray building). This is also called Church St. After you turn left, go just a short piece and turn right onto Poplar Street. The Town Hall is on your left.

Directions to Bruceton United Methodist Church: Bruceton United Methodist

Take I-68 East to the Bruceton Mills Exit (exit 23). Turn left onto WV-26 north.
Shortly off the exit, pass the small cluster of businesses (Twila’s is one) and the Antique Mall on your left, and turn left over a small bridge into Bruceton Mills (Morgantown Street). You will see the Mill Stone and Hostetler’s Country Store on your right. Turn right at the Platinum Looks Hair Salon (Clear Mountain Bank will be on your left). Go past the Family Dollar Store, up the hill and the church is on the left.

True to the fashion of quaint little towns, the street names aren’t all marked, but these landmarks will be very easy to find.
